If you are lucky you may experience one or two moments in life that a truly life changing. Witnessing a total solar eclipse is one of those moments for me! There are not enough words to describe looking up at the sun and seeing a black spot and only a faint glow from where the sun should be. Not to mention experiencing all the additional affects the eclipse has. The gradual shift in temrapture, going from skin burning hot to mildly chilled air. Watching as the light slowly dims over hours giving what can only be described as an “ominous” feeling. Finally looking all around you as totality happens to see a 360 degree sunset.

I managed to have 4 minutes of totality, giving me enough time to get a number of shots to process. I used 7 images to create this shot above, 5 were to bring out the details in the suns corona (the atmospheric glow that is only viewable during totality). I purposely over exposed one image to make the dark side of the moon visible, this is known as earth glow. Finally a shot of the night sky to capture the stars, this shot is done a day later because even though you can see planets and faint stars during totality with your eyes, a camera can not handle the extreme difference in brightness.
