At the end of September I decided to take a mini road trip uptown Jasper National Park to catch the fall colours in full swing. On the way I decided to stop at my favour spot where the drowning aspens were fully changed for fall. I love capturing these smaller details from the larger landscapes. They feel more intimate.
Once I got to Jasper I was shocked at how devastating the wild fire from a few years ago actually was. I haven’t been up there since the fire happened and to see it with my own eyes was truly heart breaking. I was thinking it will take decades and even a century to regrow the trees that were lost. I will be long gone from this earth before it recovers.
All the more reason to go see and document its beauty now because we never know when it could be gone or when we might never be able to go back. Pyramid lake gave a subtle but beautiful sunset on day 2 of the trip. But the real show was Maligne Lake on the first evening. The clouds worked with the sun to part ways in the west and just put on a show for us.
One of the other reasons I love going to Jasper during the Fall is the moose! This place has like a little colony of them and it can be pretty easy (with patients) to see them. One the first day we saw 6 in just an hour. I love how massive these beasts get and how silly they look at times. They are a humbling animal.
