To say this shot was a risky moment is an understatement. The hike down to this coastal spot is fine, but at the cliff edge the dirt path turns to solid rock, slicked to ice by ocean mist. I traversed a steep section and nearly lost my footing before catching a handhold just in time to stop a 30-foot fall. Shaken, I worked my way onto the ledge and spent the next few hours shooting as the sun set and the Milky Way rose over the inlet, dark tree silhouettes framing the glowing water below. No photo is worth risking your life for, but in that moment I was glad to be alive to see it.

Shaken I slowly move my way across and into position on the ledge next to me. From there I was in the clear to set up and start shooting. I spent the next few hours shooting as the sun set and the Milky Way rose from behind the horizon. Once I had all the shots I needed it was time to carefully climb out in the dark. If I learned anything that night it was that no photo is worth risking my well being but in that moment I was extremely thankful to still be alive viewing the world though renewed eyes.
