The Dolomites’ sharp, snow-streaked spires rise like teeth against the last orange glow of sunset, with the Milky Way’s soft haze spilling into the sky right beside the highest peak. Italy’s mountains have a completely different character than the Rockies, and I love chasing that contrast whenever I get the chance.
The Dolomites of Italy are a wild raw landscape. When I arrived at my hutte my wind was racing with all the possibilities. On my first night I headed out to capture a famous trio of peaks however nature had other plans. All of the clouds were not above my primary subject but they were perfectly placed on the range behind me across the valley. So It was time for a change of plan, I switched up my position and the lens I was using to get a solid composition from across the valley. I spent the rest of my evening watching the Milky Way rise into position. The night was calm and the only sound was a small waterfall in the distance. Not a bad way to spend my first night in Italy.
