Locals call this lake “The Wolf” because of the way it seems to howl into the valley from up on the parkway. I nearly gave up on this shot entirely — I sat in my car for a good hour while the rain came down and the wind wouldn’t quit. But something told me to go anyway, so I hiked out, set up behind a tree for cover, and waited. Right as the sun dropped behind the peaks, the clouds broke open and the whole sky exploded with colour, all of it mirrored perfectly in that unreal blue water. That’s the kind of payoff that keeps you coming back out in weather you have no business being in.
