We had been out on the cold Canadian tundra all day in search of polar bears but we were all eagerly watching the weather forecast because a massive Aurora creating solar flare was about to hit. The predictions were massive for this potential Aurora storm. Our guides dropped us off for dinner and told us not to get too comfortable because they could come calling at any moment. Sure enough just as we finished our meals we were told to load up. I’ve never put on so many layers even quickly. We raced out to the most iconic spot in Churchill, Miss Piggy, a downed US military cargo plane on a Rocky hill side. The plane and surrounding landscape make for an interesting image, throw in some Aurora and it becomes out of this world. We spent the better part of the night chasing the Aurora around the tundra, we happily took photos as our guides stood guard watching for curious and hungry polar bears.
