I decided to explore an area of the BC Rockies called the Bugaboos one weekend. I arrived at camp in the late afternoon, this gave me time to scope my location. I realized that the pond I wanted to shoot at was on the property of a ski lodge that was closing for the season. I walked up the driveway and asked the first person I saw if it would be ok to shoot the pond. This lovely lady said it was no problem, we chatted a bit and then I went in my way to get my gear. Later on another person asked me who I was and what I was doing, I explained I received permission and described the person. They laughed and said “oh yeah, you’re good then, that’s the owner.” My fear of being kicked out was quickly replaced with a massive sigh of relief. I returned in the late night to capture the Milky Way but to my disappointment some clouds moved in blocking the view. I waited around until the sun came up and shot the blue hour light and sunrise. To get the image I wanted I stuck around one more night and shot the Milky Way from my camp site. The lodge was locked up for the season, I literally arrived on their last day. Now that I had a blue hour image and a night sky I was able to do some composite magic and make the image I had in mind. One day I would love to go back and try again to get it all in camera but sometimes you have to work with what you got. That weekend taught me a lot, just how kind people can be, sometimes you have to get a little creative and luck has a huge part in creating anything.
