Iceland is one of the best places to see the Aurora borealis. Not only is it in a perfect area on the globe but there so many beautiful places to witness it and capture amazing shots. This night I was at one of the icon waterfalls in the southern region called Skogafoss. I met up with a few new friends I met earlier in the trip and tucked in for a cold night in the camper. After getting warmed up a little I checked the forecast and saw our location was the only spot on the island that had clear sky for the Aurora. I could see the faint glow of it off in the distance and decided it was worth getting up for just in case. I tapped on the window of my new (sleeping) friends while point towards the falls whispering “Aurora”. Like an instant shot of espresso they were awake and gathering gear. We set up our cameras and waited, at first I felt bad, it was cold, wet and the Aurora looked like it was going to be a bust. When suddenly the Aurora burst out in a symphony of pillars reaching to the cosmos. All of us burst out in cheer, we scrambled to get our settings corrected, the Aurora was so bright we could see each others smile filled faces in the dark. We spent the next hour or so bouncing around getting different compositions. By the end of it all we all crawled into our cars passed out from the adrenaline wearing off.
