Lake Louise is one of the many beautiful places in Banff national park. It’s a place my family has visited ever since I was a toddler. I’ve shot images here hundreds of times over the years but never at night. My skills in the past were never good enough to compensate for the massive glow produced from the chateau. Until in recent years I learned the art of composite photography. So one day in the summer of 2020 I decided to head up just as the sunset started, the sky was clearing and I knew this would be my chance. I shot the mounting and lake during blue hour, when it was dark enough to match the night sky but not too dark so that the hotel lights come on. Then it was just a matter of waiting and not moving the camera until the Milky Way appeared. It took a few hours but luckily I was parked near by, I left the camera shooting on an interval timer and caught some shut eye. I came back around 2am and took over again. As I was shooting one of the best frames I saw a shooting star shoot through the sky right in the middle of the Milky Way. I silently cheered, trying to to wake anyone up, it probably looked like a lot of random flailing around. It was so hard to sleep after that, I was to excited to edit the shots.
